Clubs at NSCAD are a great way to get to know someone new, new issues, or spend time when not in classes. If you want to start any club, a critique club, drawing collective, radio club, bridge building society, you name it, all you have to do is grab a form from the SUNSCAD office off the lounge. For more information about clubs and societies, contact finance@sunscad.org
Being a ratified club or society is beneficial because it means that you are officially recognized by the Union. Ratification allows you to:
- Use the University name
- Solicit funds or membership among the membes of the union
- Use of the University's facilities for the activities of your group
- And apply for funding from SUNSCAD for club activities or events
Ratification:
To ratify, you are expected to have a completed form from the SUNSCAD office or our website, and bring it to a Council meeting. Council meets every other week during the school year and is the body who decides to ratify clubs. You are required to come to field any questions council may have for you, mostly concerning your aims and planned activities. On the form, you should have a) a description of the club's purpose, b) a contact or 'officer' we may contact about your activities from time to time, c) the signatures of ten members of the Union (all students) who are interested in/ support the cause of your club.Requesting funding:
To request funding, come into the SUNSCAD office and ask Tara (or anyone who happens to be around) for a funding request form for your club. To allocate funds, we require a budget listing the things you wish to purchase, how much they cost, why you would like to purchase them and any other plans you have to fund your event or club on-going. The request then goes to council and it is approved or rejected. It helps to be present when requesting funding to address any concerns of the council members.Don't hold your breath, But do expect to see an electronic copy of these forms online. Soon!
- Tips for clubs:
- - Have an agenda! - it might seem like a drag but it will keep you focused
- - Canvass your members for ideas - you'd be surprised what those people in your club can come up with. Activities? Parties? Workshops? Interesting topics!?
- - Put up posters! - how can anyone come if you're not letting anyone know where you are?
- - Talk to your VP Finance - tell her what you're doing, how its going and what is working for you. It helps us and it helps you get more out of your club! And we can put you up on the website for added exposure.
- - Come to council meetings sometimes - we'd love to hear from you
- - Don't take on too much - unless you're really big!
